#9. Sprummer 2015. “Radical Lessons for a Meaningful Life”

soup 2

Thank you so much to everyone who came out June 10th , 2015 to support Soup Ottawa and the Magnetic North Theatre Festival. This fantastic partnership was a tremendous success allowing us to pack Knox Presbyterian Church with more than 150 community-minded audience members with an interest in the arts. Following some delicious soup (shout-out to the SconeWitch and Sobeys! And to Metro Homes for their generous donation!) and some awesome mini scones (Thanks again SconeWitch!) our audience voted for their favorite project. A big thanks to Moo Shu Ice Cream for providing some very unique ice cream truffles while we casted our votes. It was the perfect way to celebrate Soup Ottawa’s 2nd birthday! We’d also like to give a shout-out to the always entertaining Pierre Brault, our awesome emcee for the evening.

The big winner of the night, taking home more than $1600 for their upcoming event, was “Fresh Meat 4: DIY Theatre”. Their project consists entirely of brand new 20-minute original works created and performed by local theatre artists. Well-deserved! Keep up with their progress online (www.freshmeatfest.com) and on twitter @freshmeat4.

Congratulations to all of our amazing presenters last night. In case you missed them, here they are:

Once Upon a Kingdom Youth Directing Internship – guidance for youth towards creating and directing their own work

Loon Choir Presents: No Past, No Future – nine member band performing their new album as political DIY theatre

Walking With Our Sisters – a collaborative, commemorative art installation

Women of Ottawa’s Spoken Word Present: The Truth – documentary video interviewing unheard female poets from the last decade

Nostalgia Machine: Ottawa’s Hidden Musical History – proving to you that Ottawa isn’t boring
