Deadline Extension!

Hey Soupers,

For all you wonderful community-driven projects out there that have been trying to apply for our Fall event, Harvesting Creativity, and have experienced some challenges – we apologize! We’ve been experiencing some technical difficulties with our online application and submission process but (thanks to some of our tech-savvy committee members!) we are back on track and ready for your initiatives to roll in.

Hopefully a little extra time will make up for it, which is why we’ve extended the application deadline to Sunday, September 13, 2015 at midnight.

Thank you for your understanding and keep the fresh ideas rolling in!

Venue and Date Announced!

It’s time for announcements!

We are pleased to present our next Soup Ottawa event on Thursday, October 8th, 2015!

And we have a venue to boot! We’ve partnered with the Clocktower Brew Pub | Craft Brewery in the Glebe! Because let’s be honest, it isn’t Soup Ottawa without craft beer flowing – and soup, can’t forget the soup.

Got a ground breaking project and need some start-up moula (a.k.a funds), you’re in luck. We are still accepting applications for Ottawa’s best “Harvesting Creativity” initiative.

Dust off the old slurpin’ spoons and stay tuned for more information. Don’t be shy, keep in touch with us on Twitter, @SoupOttawa, and on Facebook!

Applications are NOW OPEN for Soup Ottawa’s Fall 2015 Event!

Do you have a creative idea to improve your community? Are you looking for the chance to get the word out about your project? Then apply to be a part of our next event!

Once again, Soup Ottawa is looking for unique, community-driven initiatives which speak to our fall theme: “Harvesting Creativity”. Artists, entrepreneurs, volunteers, inventors and more, we want to hear about your creative project! We encourage a diverse range of individuals, groups and organizations to apply. We welcome both new ideas and established projects.

What’s in it for you? Successful applications chosen to present at the next Soup Ottawa event will have a chance to win funding for their project (likely $1000 or more!) By being a presenter, you will also have a great opportunity to pitch your project before an audience of community-minded supporters.

The application process is simple and quick! For more details on how to apply, please see: www.soupottawa.ca/apply. Applications are due by: Friday, September 11th at 11:59pm.

How does it work? Soup Ottawa is a micro-grant event that focuses on two things: good soup and funding great community projects. For $10, every attendee gets a bowl of quality soup and bread, and one vote. The project presenter who receives the most votes wins every penny from the pool of cash. So if 100 people show up, that’s $1000 for the winning idea! For more information, please see: www.soupottawa.ca/about

Soup Ottawa’s next event “Harvesting Creativity” will take place on during the second week of October, 2015. Keep in touch with us on twitter @SoupOttawa for more details and ticket sales!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out Wednesday to support Soup Ottawa and the Magnetic North Theatre Festival. This fantastic partnership was a tremendous success allowing us to pack Knox Presbyterian Church with more than 150 community-minded audience members with an interest in the arts. Following some delicious soup (shout-out to the SconeWitch and Sobeys! And to Metro Homes for their generous donation!) and some awesome mini scones (Thanks again SconeWitch!) our audience voted for their favorite project. The winner, taking home more than $1600 for their upcoming event, was “Fresh Meat 4: DIY Theatre”. Well-deserved! Keep up with their progress on twitter @freshmeat4.

Congratulations to all of our amazing presenters last night. Each project was unique and certainly spoke to our theme “Radical Lessons for a Meaningful Life”. If you would like to get in touch with any of our presenters, check out our twitter feed from the event @soupottawa.

A big thanks to Moo Shu Ice Cream for providing some very unique ice cream truffles while we casted our votes. It was the perfect way to celebrate Soup Ottawa’s 2nd birthday! Stop by the Mill Street Brew Pub on Sunday, June 14th to try more of Moo Shu’s tasty treats! They will be on hand at “Manmade” with some delicious Beyond the Pale ice cream.

We’d also like to give a shout-out to the always entertaining Pierre Brault, our awesome emcee for the evening. Finally, a thank you to Reachology, an Ottawa-based digital marketing agency who has been with us from the start, live tweeting all of our events!
