Call for Applications – Spring Soup 2016

Do you have a fresh new idea that would be perfect for Ottawa? What about an existing initiative that’s unlike anything the community has ever seen before?

If you answered yes to either of those questions, then we want you to apply to our Spring Soup to the theme of “Renew. Refresh. Rebuild.” Whether you’re an individual or an organization, an entrepreneur or a volunteer, we’re interested in hearing your ideas! We welcome both new and established projects.

What is the selection criteria? The Soup Ottawa Planning Committee will select the six projects to present at the event. Community benefit is the main criteria we’re looking for, but we will also consider the project’s creativity, achievability and connection to the theme. We may prioritize projects that aren’t eligible for conventional means of support.

How do I apply? Applying for a grant is intentionally simple to encourage broad participation. Just fill in the online form below to apply. Please keep in mind that at least one member of your project must be present at the event which will take place mid-May. Presentations must be 5 minutes in length, followed by a 5 minute Q&A. Those selected to present at the event will be contacted prior to the event.

Applications are due by: Sunday, May 1, 2016 (send by 11:59pm, EST).

How does it work? Soup Ottawa is a micro-grant event that focuses on two things: good soup and funding great community projects. For $10, every attendee gets a bowl of quality soup and bread, and one vote. The community project presenter who receives the most votes wins every penny from the pool of cash. So if 100 people show up, that’s $1000 for the winning idea!

  5. Hello! I wondered if there’s a mistake in the presentation time? It says”…take place during the second week of October, 2015. ” Thank you!

  6. Hi there,

My name is Francis and I’m working alongside Kim Kirton, founder and partner at The Balance Project. We are a social enterprise started about a year and a half ago focusing on addressing the issues of unethical and ecologically detrimental consumption in fashion by providing alternative products and apparel. We’re always excited to find resources that cater to social good, and so I was just curious to see when the next application round will be opened up for this amazing initiative. If possible we’d love to chance to apply!

Thank you and looking forward to hearing back.

Thank you for reaching out to us and we apologize for the delayed response! The Balance Project sounds like a great initiative.

We’ll actually be having a team meeting in the next coming week to begin confirming details, including dates for application, for our next event. We’d love for your project to have the opportunity to apply, hold tight as more information will be made available as soon as we can!

      Cheers,
      Soup Ottawa
